Once a long time ago a little
boy, born in the Mid West wanted to learn how to play Guitar... so he started to nag his mom, he was only five
or six years old,and had a hard time learning how to read and write so his mom would say, "when you get
older"...The little boy saw the guitars players, and singers on T.V. and keep asking his mom, but he got
the same answer, "when you get older"... one day his mom and dad decided they were going to move to
California, so out west they came, and when the little boy turned eight years old he asked his mom if he
could play the guitar and she said "when you are older"... when the little boy turned nine he asked his mom
again if he could play the guitar and she finally said yes!! So off they went to the nearest music store, and
mom rented the little boy a guitar and he began to take lessons.... (boy!
oh boy!) The little boy took his guitar into the music room, and the teacher walked in. The little boy was excited
and scared at the same time. The teacher explained the parts of the guitar and took out a brand new guitar
book and the lessons began. When the little boy got home from the first lesson he was so excited.. his mom said if he did not practice she would stop his lessons, but the little boy hardly heard, he ran to his room and took out
the guitar and started to practice even though dinner was going to be served. Each week was a new lesson and a
new string, or note was learned, and a cord, or two, some were easy, but some were very hard and one
week the little boy came in for a lesson after a week of practicing and he could not play one of the cords. The teacher
was upset, but understanding at the same time, but the little boy was scared that for the first time he would
not be able to play the guitar. The teacher thought that he had not practiced enough, but the little boy just could
not get his little stubby fingers to bend. So he went home and practiced, and practiced but still could not
play the cord. On the day of the next lesson the little boy went into the music room very scared and when
it came time to play the cord, he put his fingers on the keyboard, and all at once (what a surprise!!) he was
able to play it! He had relaxed and put his fingers on the right frets, and notes of the keyboard and
the "cord" rang out. The teacher was very happy and the little boy was excited all over again....
Wow! just like that!!! This was the best lesson ever, since it was the hardiest thing the little boy had done..and
he felt very good! Now he could play all three cords of the new progression...The little boy could also play the
new songs that his teacher had given him, and when he got home he started to practice and was happy to be
playing the Guitar..... A
few years passed and one day at school the class was asked to bring something to share with the class, so the little
boy brought his guitar and music and played a song, and the children clapped which made the little boy very happy...After
School one of his friends told the little boy that he should bring his guitar to the next orchestra practice, so he could play...The little boy looked at his friend
and said I do not think that guitars are in an orchestra...but his friend said that the teacher would not mind, so he brought
his guitar to school once again that week....His regular teacher gave him permission to go to the practice, so the little
boy and his friend left class for the music room...When they arrived his friend went to the teacher to tell her about his
friend and the teacher looked at the little and said"THERE ARE NO GUITARS IN AN ORCHESTRA! By now I should say that the
little boys name is John, and John was not happy at all, he did not understand why the teacher was so mad and he went back
to his class, and his class teacher told him not to be to upset that this teacher sohld have been more polite. John went
home that day and never gave up his practice, and a few years later when he was a Boy Scout he would play guitar and sing
at the camp fires, and now he was headed in a new direction....singing along with his guitar playing, and wanting to make
people happy...
